La prééclampsie est une pathologie complexe de la grossesse associée avec de l’hypertension et de la protéinurie. La prééclampsie est une préoccupation majeure pour la santé du nouveau-né et de la mère, car celle-ci peut entraîner des naissances prématurées associées avec une mortalité périnatale élevée. Actuellement, il n’y a pas de traitement efficace contre la prééclampsie, excepté l’accouchement provoqué. Des travaux récents tendent à démontrer que le déséquilibre entre les oxydants et les antioxydants (stress oxydatif) joue un rôle de premier plan dans cette maladie. Le but des travaux du Dr Bilodeau est de caractériser le déséquilibre en antioxydants chez les femmes souffrant de prééclampsie afin de mieux comprendre et diagnostiquer cette maladie.
