Le programme de recherche du Dr Claude Labrie a pour objectif de développer de nouvelles approches thérapeutiques pour prévenir ou traiter les maladies, tel le cancer de la prostate, dont l'évolution est influencée par les hormones sexuelles mâles. Les travaux en cours portent sur le facteur de transcription AIbZIP (Androgen-Induced bZIP) qui est surproduit dans le cancer de la prostate et dont la production est modulée par les androgènes. AIbZIP pourrait être impliquée dans le processus de maturation des protéines car elle s'associe au réticulum endoplasmique. Afin de clarifier le rôle de AIbZIP, l'équipe du Dr Labrie cherche à identifier les protéines qui contrôlent son activité ainsi que les gènes dont l'expression est sous le contrôle de AIbZIP. La surproduction transitoire ainsi que l'inactivation (par siRNA) de AIbZIP dans des lignées de cellules humaines en culture constituent deux des outils employés par l'équipe du Dr Labrie dans le cadre de ces travaux. Une meilleure connaissance du mécanisme d'action de AIbZIP permettra le développement de nouveaux traitements ciblant spécifiquement le réticulum endoplasmique dans le cancer de la prostate.
