The endocrinology and genomics group studies hormonal mechanisms and endocrine disorders associated with steroids and neuropeptides. As hormones modulate gene expression in target tissues, genomics was a natural addition over the years to the research program in this area. The group focuses particular attention on identifying and evaluating the contribution of genetic determinants to complex diseases. The main topics studied in this cutting-edge sector include biosynthesis, inactivation, description and control of hormone action, and genetic aspects of hormonal diseases. Researchers draw on an array of technologies including cellular and molecular biology, gene expression, genomics, proteomics, medicinal chemistry, protein crystallography, mass spectrometry, genetically-modified mice, and bioinformatics.
